Not Sure If Your Child Needs A Podiatrist?
Children do not always tell you their feet hurt. Sometimes the signs show up in how they move, how quickly they fatigue or how they avoid certain activities.
You might have noticed:
- Walking on toes or with feet turning inward or outward
- Complaining about sore legs, feet or heels after activity
- Tripping, falling or appearing clumsy more than other kids
- Flat feet that seem more pronounced than expected
- Knee pain during or after sport
- Reluctance to walk, run or keep up with friends
- Skin or nail concerns on the feet
These things can be completely normal for a child’s age, or they can be signs that something needs attention. A proper assessment gives you a clear answer.

Assessment And Treatment Built Around Growing Feet
Children are not small adults. Their feet are still developing and the way they walk and move changes as they grow. That is why a paediatric podiatry assessment is different to a standard adult appointment.
We look at how your child walks and runs, assess their joint range of motion, muscle strength and foot posture and build a picture of what is going on and what (if anything) needs to be done.
Treatment is always age-appropriate and practical. We focus on what will actually work for your child and your family, whether that is exercises, footwear advice, orthotics or a combination.

Our Most Frequently Asked Questions
What age can children start seeing a podiatrist?
Children of any age can see a podiatrist. We commonly see children from all age groups from newborns all the way through to older children. We commonly assess children’s gait once they start walking, that may be from 9 months – 18 months.
Will my child need orthotics?
Not necessarily. Orthotics are one option, but many childhood foot conditions respond well to stretching, strengthening exercises or footwear changes. We only recommend orthotics when the assessment shows they would make a meaningful difference.
Is flat feet in children something to worry about?
Flat feet are very common in young children and are often a normal part of development. In most cases, the arch develops over time. However, if your child has pain, tires easily or avoids activity, it is worth having it assessed to rule out anything that needs attention.
Will my health insurance cover this?
Most major health funds provide rebates for podiatry consultations and orthotics. We offer on-the-spot claiming to make it simple.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with us online or over the phone.
My child has growing pains. Is that normal?
Growing pains are common, but persistent or worsening pain, especially during or after activity, can sometimes indicate conditions like Sever’s disease or biomechanical issues. If the pain is affecting their activity or sleep, it is worth getting checked.
What should my child wear to the appointment?
Shorts or pants that can be rolled above the knee are ideal so we can assess their gait and leg alignment. Bring the shoes they wear most often as well.
